THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 11 By Chellie Campbell

Playing the Piano

“If people only knew how hard I work to gain my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.” —Michelangelo

You can learn how to play the piano. You can study music composition and theory, learn to read music and build dexterity in your fingers. You can buy the finest piano money can buy, rent an auditorium, sell tickets and gather an audience.

But if you don’t actually put your fingers on the keyboard and play—nothing will happen. You can sit in front of the piano and think “Ohmmm, I’m playing beautiful music, ohmmm...” but unless you’ve rigged a player piano, no music is going to come out of it.

I meet a lot of people who repeat their positive money affirmations every day, but never send out ships. They are not affirming—they are wishing. Affirmations aren’t magic words. They don’t conjure money out of the air. You use them to build your positive energy to the point where you start feeling and believing in your success—and with enough repetition, it becomes real to you, physically and emotionally in your body. From there you start feeling yourself motivated to take action. Action, backed up by the positive beliefs, creates the music.

A client of mine told me she was practicing her affirmations every day, but wasn’t sending out any ships. When I told her affirmations weren’t enough, that she had to reach out to people to sell her services, she rebelled. “Well,” she said sulkily, “I have a friend who’s in business and she doesn’t have to do that—she gets a lot of business through word-of-mouth referrals and never has to market her services.”

“Great!” I said. “I suggest you call her up and find out how she does it. If there is a magic way to get business to come to you without having to do any marketing, I’d love to know what it is. Let me know what you find out.”

She hasn’t returned my calls lately. My guess is wishing isn’t working.

Are you practicing? Sending out ships? Or wishing?

Today’s Affirmation: “My affirmations inspire me to send out ships

with abundant enthusiasm!”

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 10 By Chellie Campbell

The Money Is in the Phone

“Everything you want is out there waiting for you to ask. Everything you want also wants you. But you have to take action to get it.” —Jack Canfield

As a single person working alone in my own seminar and public speaking business, I send out ships on a daily basis. Some are medium-sized cargo ships like speaking at a networking meeting where I can meet many potential clients. Appearing on television or speaking at a national conference are large cruise ships. Writing this book was an aircraft carrier! But my bread and butter canoes are follow-up telephone calls to people I’ve met who are interested in my work. I close all of my sales on the telephone so I know that “The money is in the phone.” To remind myself of this, I spray-painted my telephone gold. I paint my fingernails gold, too. It’s a mnemonic device, reminding me that the riches I desire are often just a phone call away. It’s not “Cold Calling,” it’s “Gold Calling!”

Follow-up phone calling is a discipline. I work alone at home, and often people will ask me how I stay focused on work with all the distractions that are possible. You know, the laundry, personal chores, housekeeping, food, Oprah. (Oops, well I do watch Oprah—she’s terrific—and I plan my afternoon break for that. And I hate laundry, so that’s no distraction.) But for the most part, it’s easy to stay focused on my job. All I have to do is pay some bills. When there’s no more money, I remember that “The money is in the phone.” I get busy and call potential clients.

Where is your money? If you’re a business owner or in sales, your money is in the phone. If you’re employed, you sold your boss on hiring you. Ask your boss where she thinks the money is in your business. Pay most attention to your tasks at work that produce income. Businesses must make money to survive and pay you—how can you help them make more money more efficiently?

Focus on sending out the ships that bring in the treasure.

Today’s Affirmation: “My phone is ringing off the hook

with people calling to give me money!”

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 9 By Chellie Campbell

Flying Without a Net

“One day John and George showed up…and told me we had a gig. I said, ‘No. I’ve got a steady job here.…I can’t expect more.’ And I was quite serious….But then I thought, ‘Sod it.’ I bunked over the wall and was never seen again by Massey and Coggins. Pretty shrewd move really, as things turned out.’” —Sir Paul McCartney

The successful corporate executive had just been fired after twenty years. He told me he had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, but had been afraid to “fly without a net.” I have seen many people like him give up their dreams for the illusion of security, trading their hopes and aspirations for what they think is a safety net. The tragedy is: There is no net. There never was—and never will be. We are all, always, flying without a net. There is no job from which you can’t be fired, no house that can’t be destroyed, no life that can’t be lost, no gold that can’t be stolen, no stock that can’t lose its value, no security that can’t disappear.

So you might as well do what you want!

When I decided to sell my business management company and teach the Financial Stress Reduction Workshop full-time, it was really scary. I didn’t know if I would be able to sell enough workshops, on an on-going basis, to make a living. With the bookkeeping service, my clients paid me a fee every month. This created a regular income stream. With the workshop business, however, a customer paid once for the workshop and then was gone. I had to generate new customers every eight weeks. I didn’t know if I could do that. I was terrified.

But I loved teaching this workshop. All of my performing skills and financial skills were married in this creative outlet. My students were giving me great reviews and producing extraordinary results in their income. I had to go for it. I talked to people endlessly about the class and one by one, people enrolled. I would relax a bit at the beginning of each new course—I was safe for another eight weeks! But then, I’d look at the next course—no one was enrolled in it yet—and fear would strike again.

It took about three years before I started to trust that, if I followed my own program assiduously, there would always be people in the workshop. As long as I take action—think positive, send out ships and count my money—I make a wonderful income from work I love. And as long as I stay centered—swim with dolphins, survive the storms, and seek balance and enlightenment—I am happier than I have ever been in my life.

Make no decisions based on security. There is none. The safety net is an illusion. The only net you will ever have is the internal one you make for yourself. It is woven of goals, grit, determination, will, planning, resilience, creativity, and optimism. And the belief that if you fall, you have what it takes to get back up.

Today’s Affirmation: “I soar to tremendous heights of success!”

Send Out Ships

“The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps—we must step up the stairs.” —Vance Havner

Thinking positive is your first step to living rich, inside and out. But it is not enough. You have to take action to achieve your goals. I call this “Sending Out Ships.”

In the nineteenth century, the merchants in London built grand, tall-masted sailing ships. It would take many months, sometimes years, to build them. Then they would hire a crew, outfit the ship and store provisions for the long sea voyage. One fine day, the ship would weigh anchor, hoist her sails, and sail out of London harbor, on her way to visit foreign ports and trade for gold, jewels, silks, and spices. The trip would take many months—often years—and there were no communication lines open then: No ship-to-shore radio, no telegraph, no cellular telephones. Once the ship had sailed, the merchant could do nothing more; only wait for that future day when the ship would return, sailing into London harbor laden with treasure. On that day, the merchant’s fortune was made. And that’s where the expression “I’m waiting for my ship to come in,” comes from.

But some people are going down to the dock, waiting for their ship to come in—but they haven’t sent any out! If you want the fortune, your responsibility each day is to send out some ships. And you had better send out more than one, because stuff happens to ships: One runs aground just outside of the harbor, another sinks in a hurricane. A few get commandeered by pirates, the whirlpool gets one, and on the next one there’s a mutiny and they sail off to Pitcairn Island and aren’t heard from for another twenty years. Then, of course, there’s the one that hits the iceberg! Once you send the ship out, it’s out of your control. You are only in charge of sending it out, not when it comes in.

When you get into the habit of sending ships out on a daily basis, even if you know some ships aren’t going to make it back home, you are still confident and optimistic because you know you have a whole fleet sailing out there. It creates a positive expectation that ships are going to be sailing in, docking at your pier and unloading riches for you any minute. Positive energy shines from you. You feel good about yourself because you’ve been doing what it takes to succeed. This is what Tony Robbins, in his book, Awaken the Giant Within, calls “massive, positive, constructive action on a daily basis.” (Although that sounds a little too much like hard work to me.) I prefer the image of breaking the champagne bottle and waving goodbye to a proud clipper ship on a beautiful spring day as it sets forth on my behalf. And then celebrating the ship’s safe arrival with all my wealth.

Send those ships out every day. Then prepare to unload your treasures.

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 7 By Chellie Campbell

Write “Thank You!” on All Your Checks

“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.” —Frank A. Clark

It is important for your personal prosperity to take joy in the process of sending people money. As you write the check or pay the cash for your purchase, know that you are creating financial benefits for many unseen individuals who make their living from these transactions. Smile and write “Thank you!” on the bottom of every check in the memo portion. “Thank you!” that I can buy this wonderful product or service that I want. “Thank you!” for providing it for me. “Thank you!” that I have the money to buy it—and that the check is good.

Andrea James, a bright young financial planner, took this idea to heart and decided to try it. Her boyfriend was applying for an exclusive apartment through a rental agency. He knew that there would be many applications for this apartment, and prepared his with care. Andrea insisted that he write “Thank you!” with a big exclamation point on the deposit check he submitted with his application. A skeptic, he scoffed, rolled his eyes and snorted with derision, but finally acquiesced and wrote it on the check.

He got a call two days later. Although there were some seventy-five applicants for the apartment, he was the one who got it! He asked why he was the one who was chosen. The apartment manager said she picked him because he had written “Thank you!” on his check! It had brightened her day, and she said that a person who would do that was the kind of person she wanted living in her building.

He writes “Thank you!” on all his checks, now.

Give of your abundance happily to other people and they will likely do the same—happiness is catching. Send the money back out and around and eventually it will circle back to you. Then you will send it out again. We are all linked together in the circle of abundance.

Today’s Affirmation: “Thank you, Allah, for the abundant gifts

you provide for me every day.”

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 6 By Chellie Campbell

Prosperity Thinking
“One plus one is two. Two plus two is four. But five will get you ten if you know how to work it.” —Mae West

We create our own reality from our attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. What you focus on expands—focus on fear and you will become more afraid. Focus on love and acceptance and you will get more of that. As you focus on and believe in your ability to create financial abundance in your life, you will begin to receive it: Believing is seeing, not vice versa. Saying prosperity affirmations daily will help you to do this.

Yes, yes, I know you’ve heard of this before. Prosperity affirmations aren’t new. But I ask you: Are you doing them? Consistently? Every day? Because you are thinking about money every day, and I know from experience, what most people are thinking about money is not prosperous or affirmative. Do you clench your teeth when bills arrive in the mail? Do you shudder when you hear the word “taxes?” Do you respond with envy and sour grapes when a rich person is mentioned to you? If so, you need to start reprogramming your consciousness to develop a healthier attitude toward money so that you can attract it into your life.

Now, if you try doing prosperity affirmations for three days and then give up in disgust, it’s not going to work. Neuro-linguistic programming states that it takes twenty-one days to establish a new habit. In order to reframe our attitudes and beliefs about money, we need daily practice. For twenty-one days in a row. That means that if you practice saying positive affirmations for ten days and then forget a day, you have to start all over again. What we want to happen is for the new programming to become second nature so that when we hear the word “money” or “wealth” we brighten up, lighten up, and feel like we own it.

Claude Bristol, in his book The Magic of Believing, suggests a technique called “mirroring.” Stand in front of a mirror and say your affirmations out loud with power, meaning and energy. Try this for five minutes at the beginning of each day. There is something utterly transforming about talking yourself up this way.

Obviously, if we say positive affirmations for five minutes each day but then go back to our old negative groove for the other twenty-three hours, fifty-five minutes of the day, it will take a long time to notice any progress. It is important that you monitor your thoughts and words throughout the day and catch yourself in any negativisms. When you notice one, repeat two positive affirmations—one to counteract the negativism and the other to move yourself forward.

Find additional times and places to practice your affirmations. Standing in line at the post office or the grocery store, waiting for a bus or a friend at a restaurant, or while taking a shower are great times to run through your list. Another great affirmation time is while driving. It only takes 5 percent of your brain power to drive so use the rest of your brain positively!

whether I believe they do or not!”

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 5 By Chellie Campbell

People Love to Give Me Money

“Money swore an oath that nobody who did not love it should ever have it.” —Irish proverb

When I work with groups, I always ask if anyone ever took a class on making and managing money in grade school or high school. Very few hands go up. Without official training in this subject, people are left to formulate their own ideas based on what they heard, read, or saw others do. So what did you hear about money when you were growing up? What did your parents say to you when you asked for money? What did you read about money? What did your teachers, friends, neighbors tell you? What were the old clichés you heard? These thoughts became your “money mantras” and they resound in your mind whether or not you are conscious of them. And they create your financial reality. Try completing the following sentences:

“Money doesn’t grow ____________.”

“The love of money is the root _____________.”

“The rich get richer and ________________.”

“Save for a _____________.”

“It takes money to __________.”

“It’s just as easy to marry _________________.”

“Money can’t buy ______________.”

My workshop participants call out the answers immediately. As each one is mentioned, I write it on the white board for everyone to see. As I add more and more negative statements, the room gets quieter and quieter. The energy level goes way down. The feeling is palpable as people focus on their negative ideas about money. I ask them to feel the energy in the room and they all notice it’s more depressed. Then I ask, “How many people believe in the power of positive thinking?” Many people raise their hands, but then I run to the board and point out all the negative statements and ask, “Then what’s this?!”

This generally gets a good laugh as people realize that they may believe in thinking positive, but they haven’t really taken the time to evaluate the thoughts that they are constantly replaying in their minds. At this point, they’re ready to learn some new positive thoughts about money. The very first affirmation I teach them is, “People love to give me money!” I have them say it out loud with me, and the energy level in the room goes up immediately. People start laughing—it’s fun, and it feels so different to say a positive, fun, money affirmation. I say, “See, you can’t say it without smiling!”

Many people make this statement a part of their daily affirmation program. And the results have been amazing. One attorney thought it was silly, but was game to try it and so repeated this statement all the way home from the class. As he walked up to his front door, his roommate ran out and handed him a check for money he had owed him for nine months. Effie, a young photographer, was saying this affirmation in her car. When she stopped at a traffic light, a homeless man knocked on her window. When she rolled it down, he handed her five dollars!

Change your mind about money today and change your experience with money tomorrow. Try it and see.

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 4 By Chellie Campbell

Declare Your Abundance

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” —William James

“I don’t care who else wants it, I am winning that basket!” Heather Moreno declared at the networking dinner. A blond, brown-eyed dynamo of a fitness instructor, Heather avowed her intention in no uncertain terms. The gift basket that would be given to a lucky winner that evening was filled with gifts, coupons, and cash worth over six hundred dollars in goods and services.

Sitting next to Heather, I looked over at the basket and said, “Well, I want to win it, too!” She looked at me calmly and declared again, “That’s nice, Chellie, but that basket is mine!” I chuckled and recognized that my intention and commitment to having that prize was not as strong as Heather’s. She was clear as a bell about having that basket and she told everyone at our table that it was hers. In fact, she told everyone at the meeting.

The moment arrived, and Linda Soto, who designed the basket, drew a business card from the bowl. Her eyebrows raised in surprise, she announced, “The winner is—Heather Moreno!” Heather gleefully ran to the podium to collect her prize.

In recent months, I have given a cash prize at the end of my speaking engagements. The last two were won by people who declared out loud to the room that they were going to win. Once I asked a man to draw the winning ticket and as he walked up to the front of the room he said, “You know I’m going to pick my own name and win the money!” And he did.

Have you had this experience? Have you known people who declared the door prize was theirs before the drawing and then actually won it? Watch these people! Look how they do it. See the determination, the confidence, the winning attitude that succeeds. They just know they are going to win.

Winning a door prize is just practice. Like anything else, you learn to create winning experiences in your life by starting small. As the German Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said, “He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.” Don’t start with trying to win the lottery, start with winning the next door prize. Declare your abundance and success before they draw the ticket. Visualize getting the job before you go on the next interview, instead of focusing on the fear of being rejected. Confidence sells—fear repels.

The Waitress and the Short Order Cook

“Two men look out through the same bars: One sees the mud, and one the stars.” —Frederick Langbridge

The waitress has worked here since time began. Ageless and calm, her eyes see through to the end of the world. She smacks her gum, gives the customer a lopsided grin, and smoothly asks in her professional voice, “May I take your order now?” She stands there expectantly, pencil poised to write on her order pad.

“I don’t know exactly what I’m hungry for. I can’t make a mistake. I’m really sorry this is taking so long—I’m so stupid!” In discomfort and confusion, the customer gropes for the right words and the right order.

“One don’t, one can’t, and a side order of shame!” the waitress hollers to the cook. He stands behind the counter, ready to serve up another batch of cold reality. He’s heard this order before. In a second, the plate is prepared.

“I really want to help people. I don’t care about the money,” the customer explains.

“Hold the money!” the waitress hollers.

The cook silently removes the money from the plate.

A new customer bursts into the diner: “I’ll have the talent, drive and determination to be a top caliber professional writer, I write a book that helps many people and easily makes me rich and famous!”

The waitress laughs and gives the order to the cook: “One successful bestseller smothered in money and a side order of fame!”

“It’s already been delivered,” smiles the cook.

This is Earth’s Universal Diner, where you always get exactly what you ask for. Would you like to change your order?

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 2 By Chellie Campbell

Rules for Affirmations

“Getting ahead in a difficult profession requires avid faith in yourself. You must be able to sustain yourself against staggering blows. That is why some people with mediocre talent, but with great inner drive, go much farther than people with vastly superior talent.” —Sophia Loren

Great inner drive is sustained by daily positive thoughts about yourself and your expectations for your future. Affirmations are designed to help you with this process, but they only work if you say them. Knowing about them isn’t the same as doing them.

When you make the commitment to practicing positive thinking on a daily basis, what affirmations should you use? You can use the affirmations in this book, collect them from other books, or write your own. Whichever you choose, make sure that they follow the three rules for creating affirmations:

1.State affirmations in the present tense. Affirmations must be stated in the present tense, such as “I am prosperous” or “I am rich and wonderful” because if you put them in the future tense, “I’m going to be rich” you will be creating a picture in your mind that someday you’ll be prosperous, but not now. You want to program prosperity for now, today—not someday. It’s like a sign posted at a bar: “Free Beer Tomorrow.” When does the customer get free beer?

2.State affirmations in the positive. When you speak your affirmations, you are giving instructions to your subconscious mind. Neuro-linguistic programming has determined that the subconscious has no picture for “not,” “don’t” and other negative qualifiers. For example, if I tell you, “Don’t think about pink elephants, don’t see the little baby pink elephant with its trunk curled around its mama pink elephant’s tail,” I’m sure you are picturing pink elephants in your mind right now. You can’t help it. So, when you create an affirmation, say “I always have plenty of money in my bank account” rather than “I’m not going to be overdrawn on my bank account again.” Picture what you want instead of what you don’t want or you’ll be giving power to the wrong thing.

3.Be specific. A photographer friend of mine told me how much she wanted to go to Greece. She thought a great way to get there would be if she was paid to go, by getting a photography assignment there. Excited by the concept, she started doing affirmations for this trip daily: “I have a photography assignment in Athens! I have a photography assignment in Athens!” Four months later, she received the call—she had her assignment for a photo shoot in Athens. Athens, Georgia. Oops. Make sure you state exactly what it is you want.

Today’s Affirmation: “I always have plenty of money!”

THE WEALTHY SPIRIT: DAILY AFFIRMATIONS day 1 By Chellie Campbell

Celebrate a New Beginning!

“There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality, and then there are those who turn one into the other.” —Douglas Everett

This is a day of celebration: Awake and sing the song of a bold new beginning. The point of power is in the moment and this moment you can start your new path towards success, wealth and happiness. Whatever came before is buried in the snows of last year. You can and you will—whatever you desire.

We are all graduates of MSU—Make Stuff Up. Whatever you have done in your life so far, you made it all up. You chose where you live, what you wear, what friends you have, what profession you’re in, how much money you make. And you choose again each day to maintain and build upon those things or to let go of them and pick up new things, new roads, new directions. On this day of your new beginning, all paths are open, all doors unlocked, all possibilities unlimited. What will you choose to be, do, and have now and going forward?

At the beginning of each Financial Stress Reduction™ Workshop, I ask participants to write down their “Intended Results.” It is a list of goals they want to accomplish in the course. I ask you to do this as well. What is your intention in reading this book? What do you want to have achieved by the end of it? Make a list of your goals for the next one-year period—financial, emotional, and spiritual. Goals have been called “dreams with deadlines.” Writing them down brings them from the metaphysical realm into the physical. No longer just a fantasy, the idea now exists in concrete form as a written document. If you have written goals down in the past, look at them and acknowledge yourself for the ones you have accomplished. Whatever remains undone may be transferred to your new list.

Make wealth—internal and external—your goal this year. Believe you will make more money with less stress and have more time off for fun with your family and friends. Be willing to risk change and survive the storms to find your highest good. Counting your money will make your money count—and remember to count your friends and your blessings as well.

Then celebrate—you have taken the first step along the path to great achievement!
